Skiathos Town
The ancient Town of the island, today called “Kastro”, was built in 800BC at the north part of the island. Around 1829-1830 the locals decided to build a new town at the south part, more approachable and closer to the sea.

Skiathos is a peaceful green island, located in the north-west part of the Aegean Sea. Along with Skopelos & Alonissos, Skiathos completes the complex of the Sporades Islands.

History
The origins of life in Skiathos are lost in the misty background of mythology. According to the available historical evidence, the island's first inhabitants were Pelasgians, who were followed by Cretans, Thessalians (in the Mycenaean period) and Chalcidians.

The weather in Skiathos is Mediterranean, with mild winters of high rainfalls helping to refresh and maintain the lush green landscape throughout the year, and long sunny summers with ideal temperatures, not as hot as in the other Greek Islands.
